My 73 year old aunt has blood pressure of 171/78 she is on blood pressure meds please advise if this needs immediate attention?

No: but needs follow up, blood pressure variation can happen during the day, especially the systolic (upper reading), she can have her blood pressure measured after being rested or after a good night sleep, if still elevated, her doctor may revise her meds, wish you both wellness

Yes: Technically, anything higher than a systolic blood pressure (the higher number) of 180 or a diastolic of 120 is a medical emergency - at those pressures, a person’s at very high risk for organ injury that may lead to death. However, your aunt’s blood pressure is just below that, and it may rise above the threshold between readings. Report her blood pressure to her doctor as soon as possible.
