A member asked:

I have a dull aching in my perineum. psa results were fine, but i've had hemorrhoids and colorectal pain before. do i need to look into getting a colonoscopy or could it be muscle related? not sure if i've injured nerves down there with exercise etc

Rectal exam is in or: Dull perineal pain is often due to an irritated or prematurely enlarged prostate. Often, in young men, this is due to extended time on a bicycle seat. Digital rectal exam by an experienced person can often identify the problem and PSA, though useful for detecting early prostate malignancy, would not be affected by a condition such as yours. Next stop - colonoscopy.
