Back of nose: If you truly have an ear infection, most are viral in origin. The middle ear space is sterile and is a pocket of venous gases. Infection can only reach this space via the eustachian (auditory ) tube. Therefore the cause of ear infections must always start in the back of the nose. Colds, allergy and other causes of nasal obstruction are the causes of an ear infection secondarily.
