Antibiotics : Antibiotics are needed but there is the possibility of a viral etiology--some physicians would initially not prescribe an antibiotic because it could be viral or it may resolve on its own.

Doctor is a big help: See your doctor. He can examine you and prescribe medicine for you if you have an infection. In the meantime take Ibuprofen for pain.

Back of nose: If you truly have an ear infection, most are viral in origin. The middle ear space is sterile and is a pocket of venous gases. Infection can only reach this space via the eustachian (auditory ) tube. Therefore the cause of ear infections must always start in the back of the nose. Colds, allergy and other causes of nasal obstruction are the causes of an ear infection secondarily.
