A member asked:

How likely is it that a 25 year old gets heart disease from diabetes doesnt it take awhile to develop ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: This has to do with the long term consequences of abnormal glucose levels. They will raise your bad lipids & put you at higher risk of coronary artery disease earlier than the normal population but it does still take years. The same goes for destruction of your kidneys & eyesight if you don't manage your diabetes well. I wouldn't worry about a heart attack at 25-26.
