Diagnostic testing: Plantar fasciitis and Baxter's neuritis may coexist. A thorough history and physical examination as well as diagnostic testing such as ultrasound or MRI can often differentiate between the two problems. Plantar fasciitis is generally more common than Baxter's neuritis. Both problems often respond well to proper orthotic therapy and supportive shoe gear, such as athletic shoes.
