A member asked:

Why would betadine cause renal issues? i read about this today but have never seen this in any research study. its well tolerated from what ive seen

Use on skin only: The iodine in Betadine can affect kidney function if it is absorbed into the system. Betadine on the skin over small areas is safe, but it should not be used internally, swallowed or on mucous membranes. Acute tubular necrosis, a type of reversible renal failure, has been reported.
