A member asked:

What would be the benefit(s) of positioning the hole for a laser iridotomy at 3:00 or 9:00? why are some lasers positioned at 3:00 or 9:00?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No actual benefit: The hole can be lasered anywhere on the peripheral iris. Generally the choice is to put it superiorly anywhere from 10 to 2 o'clock. There is a small risk of doubling of the image when it is placed at 3 or 9 o'clock. This position is usually chosen if there is some need to preserve the iris superiorly - perhaps for anticipated surgery at a later date.
