A member asked:

My 34 year old t1d is on vent for a very bad case of pneamonia...doctor says she had irreversible lung damage from meth use....is it possible for her?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confusing question: Yes, if her meth use led to overall poor general health she could acquire a separate medical issue that causes permanent damage. Poor nutrition & failing to respond to normal body ques early in an illness make addicts a risk class of their own. Sniffing or injecting meth did not cause the pneumonia, but it led to the conditions where it could thrive/damage.
