Urinary tract infec.: UTI means urinary tract infection. An infection in the bladder, urethra, ureter, or kidney is a UTI because those parts of one's body are parts of her urinary tract. Infections that doctors and patients commonly call UTI's are usually caused by bacteria, and thus need antibiotic treatment, usually oral, such as cephalexin, trimethoprin-sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, amoxicillin-clavulanate, etc.
