Good question : Tylenol is acetaminophen - metabolized by the liver ; it helps alleviate fever and pain but has no anti-inflammatory properties. Advil is ibuprofen and is metabolized by the kidneys. It helps with pain by minimizing the inflammatory cascade. People with renal insufficiency should avoid Advil. People with liver problems should avoid Tylenol.
