Not typical: Rheumatoid arthritis typically does not involve the thoracic spine but osteoarthritis and degenerative disk disease do. Physical therapy and injection through pain management help.

Rheumatoid?: I would get another opinion. Ra affects "synovial" joints. That is primarily the cervical spine and the upper 2 levels at that. Never say never, but thoracic-only RA is not likely.
