Differential=options: Sorry if the med speak is frustrating. The term differential diagnosis is just a list of options that might give rise to the results presented. It allows the physician to take the results of other testing, history and exam to see each as more or less likely than the other. It also allows the doc to select or omit other tests that would help sort out the diagnosis.
