Palpitations: It is important to identify what the actual heart rhythm is when you experience palpitations. Wearing a heart monitor as an outpatient and making note of the exact time you experience palpitations would do this. Get a heart eval: Palpitations can accompany an abnormal mitral valve that allows backward blood flow into the atrium. A cardiologist should assess degree of leaking and whether your palpitations (Ps) are due to a treatable condition called atrial fibrillation (AF). If not due to AF, Ps may lessen when not lying on the left side. Talk with your MD about beta blocker medication as a potential treatment for Ps.
