Nothing works: Kids cough to bring up phlegm from deep in their lungs. It is a protective device. OTC cough products contain antihistamines that usually thicken the secretions and make them harder to move. Robatussin plain is free of antihistamines & not as bad as most products but does little. Making an effort to remove all airborne irritants (dust,fume,smoke() from the kids sleeping area helps.
