A member asked:

I've been having severe upper abdominal pain off and on for 3 years now. i normally get the pain early in the morning or very late at night.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can evaluate: Upper abdominal pain can be from "acid" pains, such as a stomach ulcer, just gastritis with no ulcer, or reflux (heartburn). An infection with H. pylori bacteria can lead to stomach ulcer pains (an acid blocker can help). One needs more evaluation by her primary care doctor. Heart disease, rib and cartilage problems, pancreatitis, gallstones, or various cancers also can cause upper abdominal pain.
