A member asked:

Are pelvic examinations accurate? are swabs the best way to detect pid?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Swabs and exam: The diagnosis of PID is generally a "clinical" one, meaning it is based on findings on a pelvic exam, and not necessarily by swabs. Doctors will usually do swabs to test for gonorrhea and chlamydia, however, if they are concerned that you have PID. If they think you have PID, they will generally start antibiotics before getting results from any tests, though.
