Yes: Flu is marked by fever in most patients and can be extreme. The primary complication I worry about is flu pneumonia which would be marked by breathing difficulty. At 8 mo Ibuprofen may be a longer acting fever reducer.

Normal and useful: Fever is a key aspect of how we fight infections- microbes don't survive at high temperature and our white blood cells work better. Drugs to reduce fever may help one feel better temporarily but prolong infections! It's best to let the fever run its course unless it gets really high (above 40). Keep your baby well-hydrated.
