A member asked:

What is the least maintenance dose of cordarone in afib to avoid s/e & is it safe to use class1c in such case cause im afraid of pro arrhythmic effect?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cordorone: Amiodarone is a class 3 drug and when used alone isn't considered proarryhthmic so the patient doesn't necessarily need hospitalization for continuous heart monitoring when started on it.. Because of potential side effects like thyroid or lung damage, physicians strive to use the lowest possible effectivemaintenance dose to prevent occurrence of a fib. This usually means no more than 200 mgs daily.
