Nerve damage: High blood sugars can hurt the nerves and result in either numbness, pain, or both in tr feet (and later, the fingers). If your feet are numb, make sure you check your feet nightly to look for anything that can lead to infection (blisters, cuts, ulcers). Better blood sugar control can reduce further nerve damage (but not reverse the parts already damaged).
