Why won't my doctor prescribe ursodiol to me? i rejected gallbladder surgery. i've been attack-free for long stretches of time and i have fewer stones in my latest ultrasound.

Not primary Rx: the primary treatment of symptomatic gall stones is laparoscopic surgery....ursodiol maybe used if primary treatment is not possible....Iursodiol treatment, in my experience is also not that effective and side effect rate is a bit too high.....Dr. Murray Wellner

URSODIOL: 1. Only works with CHOLESTEROL containing gallstones and 2. ONLY when these are SMALL..... Hope this is helpful Dr Z
