ER evaluation: Brown discharge is typically old blood. Since you went to the ER it would be very important to know if they were able to identify a live intrauterine pregnancy. At 6-7 weeks the fetal heart should be visible. Bleeding in pregnancy is common but never normal and should be evaluated. Bacterial vaginosis (BV) can be treated. It does not cause bleeding.
