A member asked:

I had a total thyroidectomy yesterday and today i feel like i have a sunburn on my arms, upper thighs and face. should i be concerned?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Skin and thyroid: When the whole thyroid gland is removed, your provider team should prescribe replacement thyroid hormone ((such as Synthroid) which has a growth effect on skin. This effect should wane once the appropriate replacement level is determined. If the skin manifestations fail to resolve in a week or so, contact your surgeon.
