A member asked:

What is the sensitivity of chest x-ray in diagnosing spontaneous pneumothorax? is this a deadly condition usually in a young, otherwise healthy man.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Good: On a 2 view chest x-ray it is rather easy to spot a spontaneous pneumothorax. The larger and more worrisome it is the easier it is to spot. Treatment is often just observation for small ones with or without supplemental oxygen. The ones that need evacuation, chest tubes or other aggressive treatments are quite dramatic. Those can be life threatening at any age.
