Mirena: pain: Usually 24 hours after successful IUD insertion, there is minimal to no discomfort. The uterus is a muscle, and with a "foreign body" present, the contractions may force the IUD into the cervical canal, which produces pain as described. Get an appointment with the provider who placed the IUD to make certain it is still in the right place, and not the cervical canal.
