Mood disorder: Major depressive disorder or clinical depression is a mood disorder which causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest for at least two weeks. Some of the major signs and symptoms are persistent sadness, anxious or empty mood, feelings of hopelessness or pessimism, irritability, & feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness.

Criteria: depressed mood, lack of energy, lack of interest in life, crying jags, suicidal thoughtd or ideas, lack of sexual desire, rarely, hypersexuality, hypersomnia. social withdrawal and lack of social interation that have been ongoing over time.
