Define badly ??: The tongue is bathed in saliva that has some antibacterial qualities. Simple cuts /lacerations are rarely stitched because the process can lead to an abscess along the suture line. If the tongue is sliced into sections that fall apart/are very deep/ gape constantly, they may need to be stitched to promote healing. The need is based on an exam.
