Immune response: The primary antibody response to an invading organism triggers the production of igm. If igm is detected in the blood, then the physician knows that the infection was likely to have occurred for the first time in the past month. Igm is soon replaced in the secondary immunphase by igg called "convalescent antibody" that can often, but not always, protect against re-infection with the same oprganism.
