Prolonged periods: This kind of bleeding is not normal. Fibroids and polyps are common causes of bleeding , and a pelvic ultrasound can sometimes discover the cause. If your cycles have always been irregular, you may have polycystic ovarian syndrome. Ask for a referral to a gyn physician for appropriate testing.
