I fractured both hip bones and my sacrum 9 years ago and i frequently still experience lower back pain that occasionally flares up causing extreme pain. is there something i can personally do to relieve this?

See Orthopedics: Since you are young and you do not mention what caused the hip fractures and sacrum injury I take it was a traumatic experience. How frequently you get the back pain is concerning. I would see your prior surgeon if possible. They know your case and it will save you a lot of extra testing to get to the reason you have the back pain. You don't want to let this go. Find out and prevent further pain.

Strengthening : I would see your doc first...... but in general, physical therapy as well as your own exercises geared towards strengthening the surrounding muscles, particularly your core and posterior chain muscles will give you the best results. If you are able, exercises such as deadlift will be best. TENS units and NSAIDs also useful.
