A member asked:

I don't get period cramps often (maybe 3 max every year), but when i do they are so severe i can't function. should i be seen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Painful periods: With advancing age, estrogen production increases, b/c the ovary requires more stimulation to ovulate, This produces a much thicker lining (endometrium) of the uterus, and when it degenerates, bleeding increases, forming clots on some occasions which require strong uterine contractions to pass on into the vaginal canal. This can cause severe cramping. If this becomes more frequent, see your gyn.
