Complicated answer: The question you asked is a difficult one. Only about 30% of people at initial infection will experience any kind of symptomatology such as night sweats lymph node swelling or diarrhea. In general terms it's believed to take anywhere from 5 to 10 years to effectively dismantle the immune system enough to start getting what we referred to as opportunistic and life-threatening infections.
