Yes, this is a: physiological response to the stress of your illness. You may be a little dehydrated as well which will make this more prominent.

Explanation : It's usual. Having any kind of viral infection going together with fever, low or high. Fever always accompanied by increased heart rate. Please treat your "some type of virus" appropriately and your heart rate will be back normal for you.
