Not exactly: Herpes is transmitted through skin to skin contact. Then the virus is transmitted down the axon of the nerve and lies latent at the dorsal root ganglia of that particular nerve. When it reactivates it will travel down the nerve axon leading the the symptoms on the skin innervated by that particular nerve
