Safe but may sedate: Sertraline is used to treat both depression/ anxiety. Medications such SSRI have a delay before they are effective. Until then patients' symptoms such as poor sleep or anxiety will hopefully resolve over time but may require meds for relief The more meds used, the greater the risk for drug drug interaction or additive side effects such as sedation. Drug safety: Yes but as stated previously - just be aware that hydroxyzine can be sedating for some. Also make sure that the doctor who is prescribing your sertraline knows and concurs with your use of both.
