A member asked:

Prescribed mupirocin 2% ointment for staph ssti. dr. said to use in nose also. saw med. says not for intranasal use. using as directed, is this safe?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ok if a thin layer: Directions say not for intranasal use because if used in large amounts and "aspirated" (breathed into lungs from nose) it could cause serious problems (the base is petroleum jelly--highly irritating to the lungs). Should be fine for intranasal use if used as a thin layer placed with a q-tip near the front and for a limited period of time.
