In-person care: A patient with a possible fungal scalp infection needs in-person care with her primary care doctor and maybe a dermatologist because scalp fungal infections are treated with oral antifungal pills that sometimes need blood tests to monitor for side effects. The doctor often will culture the scalp fungus to get an accurate idea of the type of infection. Creams usually do not get rid of scalp fungus.
