A member asked:

My 2 year old has runny stomach and has a rash on the anus and cries when we change her nappy. what can i do or should i take her to hospital?

Thoughts: Anal rashes usually reflect the acidic nature of poop when they have the runs & sometimes the yeast that can contaminate the sores. A barrier like most diaper creams and OTC ointments like clotrimazole will often aid in recovery. I don't ever recall a diaper rash that I would consider an emergency but some parents do freak out if they can't figure out what to do.
