Moderate, short pains on spot on right side of head, lasts a few secs to a couple mins, multiple times a day & the spot is tender to touch. started a few days ago. no recent injury.

Nothing serious!: Anything serious will cause persistent pain. So I doubt that you have anything serious going on there. If it bothers you much, you can try using local ice pack applications for a couple of days. If you feel any local bump/lump, then the pain could have a more serious underlying cause. In that case get your PCP to examine you. I would wait for 2 weeks to see if it goes away with simple measures.
