Doctor can check: Slightly enlarged nodes in the upper neck can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, dental problems, acne, etc... Usually, a person sees his primary care doctor if the lymph nodes get bigger and bigger, or if they don't shrink over a period of several months.
