A member asked:

Is it recommended to do brca mutation testing if mom only was dx at 38 with bc? does insurance cover testing and mri with only 1 fam member dx at young age?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

BRCA testing: This testing is advised when multiple members of the family have had either breast , ovarian or colon cancer, all of which are affected by the BRCA gene locus if present. One primary female relative having breast cancer at age 38 would be a justification for having a digital mammorgram at about the same age. Consult your insurance company about the BRCA coverage.
