My sister is pregnant and still smokes. is that bad for her unborn baby?

Horrible!: Smoking has extremely bad effects on the fetus. There have been many studies associating maternal smoking to prematurity, poor fetal weight gain, etc. Beyond pregnancy it will also harm the child in his life. These harms go from learning problems to adhd to wheezing and asthma.

YES!: You should do everything you can to urge your sister to quit smoking while she is pregnant. Smoking can cause premature labor, problems with blood flow through the placenta (which gives the unborn baby oxygen), and low birth weight. Also encourage your sister to discuss this with her ob/gyn, who can provide her with resources to help her quit.
