Can check with Dr.: Haven't heard of salicylic acid topical (ointment, cream, lotion, or gel) medications causing problems during pregnancy. Synchroline Aknicare is listed as a salicylic acid acne cream on one website. A woman can take her tube of medication or the box to her doctor to check the main ingredients. Salicylic acid acne products are over-the-counter, sold everywhere, and commonly used.

General rule: No over the counter medication you apply to your skin will penetrate the skin barrier enough to send any meds into the bloodstream. If it can't reach the blood, it can't reach the baby and cause harm. Be sure you let docs know you are pregnant if any meds are prescribed, but these are not a problem.
