Ask Doctor: They probably looked into the ear. The ear drum sometimes ruptures with an infection. You would not want to use the ear drops if the drum was ruptured. Maybe that is why you got oral antibiotics and other meds. Just call the office and ask to have it clarified.

No: Otitis media is a middle ear infection, behind your tympanic membrane (TM), so eardrops will not penetrate TM to provide any help. They are generally used for Otitis Externa - outer ear infection. Your dr already prescribed an oral antibiotic and steroid to treat your middle ear infection. Take Care!
