A member asked:

Throat & ear pain st. jan 26th. & cong.doc gave antibiotics jan 28th. ear/throat pain gone feb 1st. throat still red & slight cong. am i contagious?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe/not: If you have strep, that is sensitive to antibiotics and you would not be contagious after 24-48 hrs. If you also have mono, or the throat was not tested to confirm a strep, its hard to be sure. Mono can remain contagious for 3 weeks or so. Simple viral throat irritation is usually contagious until the fever is gone.
