A member asked:

Pinching pain in left abdomen... ive had mono for a little over a month. could it be my spleen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe: The spleen, stomach, part of the pancreas, and part of the intestine are in the upper left abdomen. A patient who suspects that certain pains are related to stomach acid, reflux, or ulcers can try taking a full-sized dose of Maalox or Mylanta to see what happens. If the pains or sensations go away each time, that suggests the pains are due to acidity. Her doctor can check for an enlarged spleen.
