Doctor can examine: A person who has over two weeks of cough should see a doctor. The doctor can evaluate to see if there is allergies, asthma, sinusitis, bronchitis, pertussis, pneumonia, or perhaps another problem in the throat or chest. Problems can be more serious if the person is a smoker or has other health problems. Smoking is a major risk factor for several lung diseases, including cancer.

Flu?: With the Australian flu becoming an epidemic, I suspect what you have is the consequence of the flu. You may try honey to see if this helps. If the problem gets worse or lingers on for more than a month, you may need to get examined to make sure that it is not from something else. If you can't sleep at night because of the cough, a Rx cough med may be needed.
