A member asked:

I've got a really sore throat with no other symptoms of having flu. it hurts when i swallow or eat. i have throat spray but doesn't seem to help?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold virus (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, stomach acid reflux, etc... Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can decrease pain temporarily.
