A member asked:

I have a sore throat only on my left side, ear is throbbing on the left side only. no symptoms of flu or fever, hurts to swallow. what can i take?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can examine: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold virus (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly, mainly to see if antibiotics like amoxicillin are needed. Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin can decrease pain temporarily.
