Need check up: 30 minutes is a long time to have symptoms of full blown vertigo which you describe as the room spinning. Blood clot, TIA, virus, stroke, substance abuse come to mind. It is not normal to have this occurring whether you are driving through mountains on or off the road. See a Doctor before driving again to get diagnosed and prevent an auto accident.
